Hearing Aids Connect Him to the World

Even for younger patients, hearing loss may be profound. Fortunately, an attentive and persistent hearing instrument specialist can provide the solution.

Daniel Johnston may have a severe hearing loss, but it certainly doesn’t seem to slow him down.

“I’m an entertainer,” he says. “I was a professional surfer, I do some modeling and acting, and I’m interning at a gym to be a personal trainer.

“My main thing right now, though, is music. It’s hard for a lot of people to believe because of my hearing loss, but I play acoustic guitar; I’m able to feel the vibration through the instrument. I guess I just wanted to play the instrument so badly that I would practice all day until I learned. My band and I recently recorded a CD and signed a contract with MTV for their Teen Wolf series.

Don’t Wait for Better Hearing

Hearing health should never be put on the back burner. Even for patients who have been told to wait, improved hearing may be just a phone call away.

“I have had ear trouble ever since I was two years old,” says Margaret “Maggie” Leinster. “Over the years, I had four mastoidectomy procedures, so I’ve paid my dues.”

Mastoidectomy surgery is performed in order to remove mastoid cells affected by an ear infection, and Maggie’s problems with chronic infections ultimately led to severe hearing difficulties. She is profoundly deaf in her left ear and requires a hearing aid for the right ear.

“My hearing loss became such that I needed a hearing aid for my right ear about ten years ago,” she explains. “I was living in Palm City when I first started getting hearing aids, and I have had several of them since then.”

Better Hearing In One Visit

Thanks to open platform technology, hearing aid patients can get perfectly programmed hearing aids with no waiting.

Bettye Pitcock remembers the moment she realized she needed hearing aids.

“I took my daughter with me to Alaska,” she says, “and on the trip, she said to me, Mom, when you get home, would you please have your hearing checked? ”

In 2002, Bettye consulted Dan Taylor, ACA, BC-HIS, COHC, at A-Advanced Hearing Care. She recalls having met Dan years earlier.

Putting the Care in Hearing Care

Personalized service not only generates referrals but also leads to long-term patient/specialist relationships.

For Diane and Allen Brubaker, life in Florida is just one chapter of a long journey they have taken together.

“We bought an RV when we retired,” explains Allen, “so we’ve traveled around quite a bit. We have been in Florida off and on since 1978.”

Eventually, Allen began to experience hearing loss, he recalls.

“Anytime my wife would say something, I’d say, What ? Her parents actually picked up on it, and so that clued me in to the fact that my hearing wasn’t doing too well.”
