Better Hearing In One Visit
Thanks to open platform technology, hearing aid patients can get perfectly programmed hearing aids with no waiting.
Bettye Pitcock remembers the moment she realized she needed hearing aids.
“I took my daughter with me to Alaska,” she says, “and on the trip, she said to me, Mom, when you get home, would you please have your hearing checked? ”
In 2002, Bettye consulted Dan Taylor, ACA, BC-HIS, COHC, at A-Advanced Hearing Care. She recalls having met Dan years earlier.
“When Dan opened up downtown, the local radio station did a morning show there, and a lot of us who were active with the club at the station showed up for Dan’s opening,” she explains. “When I saw him for the hearing aids, it was like meeting him all over again, but he puts you very much at ease, and we have a great rapport.”
The revolutionary Sona System
At A-Advanced Hearing Care, the focus is always on patient care first, emphasizes Dan.
“In my practice, I’m patient-centered and results-oriented. I’m not so much concerned with how the patient’s hearing loss began; I’m interested in providing solutions.”
As someone who wears hearing aids himself, Dan has indeed walked a mile in the shoes of his patients. Consequently, he always provides comprehensive and state-of-the-art hearing testing and hearing instrument technology.
“I have live equipment demonstrating the benefits of better hearing,” he explains. “That’s important, because the sooner we can put equipment on someone to demonstrate the benefits of better hearing after we have discovered the need, the higher the success rate.
“Hearing aids have evolved far beyond what we have thought of them in the past,” he reflects, “and in August 2011 Bettye upgraded from large in-the-ear instruments to Sona receiver-in-the-canal instruments.”
Dan notes that the advantages with these hearing aids are significant.
“Sona is now taking advantage of something that the industry has been talking about for the last fifteen years, and that’s open platform technology,” says Dan. “Sona allows me to fit every level of hearing complexity, from entry level to premium, using the same equipment.
“As a result, what would normally have taken two or three trips was accomplished in one. Bettye came in, I was able to fit her with a set of off-the-shelf Sona instruments programmed to her specifications, and she was out the door in less than an hour.”
“They’re excellent”
Bettye is thrilled with her new hearing instruments, reporting that they are the best she has ever had.
“They are what they call an open fit ,” she says, “and they are really excellent. They’re much cooler to wear because they don’t create moisture like the kind that fill your entire ear. I love them.”
She thanks Dan for all his help over the years, adding that she appreciates both his expertise in the field and the care he shows his patients.
“One thing that impressed me about Dan was that he wears hearing aids himself,” reflects Bettye. “I figured if he wears hearing aids, he has to know something about them! And he really is a great guy. He cares about his patients.
“I think I have the best person to give me hearing aids, and I highly recommend him.”
