Modular Hearing Instruments

Email Print

Modular hearing instruments are those that are assembled from various parts modules to make up the actual instrument that we use to fit our patients with.  The modularization of hearing aids is a great thing for consumers as it allows for many repairs that would require a custom instrument to be returned to the manufacture for repair, can now be accomplished right on the spot in our lab.

The most common of the modular instruments are the receiver in the canal, or RIC instruments.  This entire class of equipment offers advantages over both it's traditional and conventional cousin and all styles of custom aid.

In some cases everything from the receivers, shell casings, microphone covers, ear tips and retention hooks can all be replaced right in our lab, most of the time in less than ten minutes, or overnight, if we have to order the part.  This is a far cry from the ten days to two weeks out of service that occurs with most custom hearing aid repairs.

Which would you prefer, an in house ten minute repair, or sending it to the lab for service and hoping for return in under two weeks?  When it comes to serviceability modulars rule.
